Ephemeral mists "moon ritual" [21 Feb 2009|12:24am]

Ephemeral Mists is the most recent project by the artist, Brett Branning (the composer for The synthetic dream foundation & Abandoned Toys). The first album, "Moon Ritual" is now out on Mythical records.

The sound of the project is best described as downtempo ambient music mixed with tribal musics and dark atmospheres in the stylings of "Karma" era Delerium, Robert rich, Dead Can Dance, and Steve Roach. Its an incredibly powerful cd. A beautiful new side to this wonderful composer's catalog and I highly recommend it to anyone into ambient styles of sound.

NEW MUSIC from The Devouring Element! [07 Oct 2008|09:58am]

Well.... after a long hiatus, there is actually news to report from the Parasomnic camp!  The debut release from The Devouring Element, "Subterranean Hymns", is finally done!  It's been mastered and will soon be ready for public consumption.  Not sure whether we'll actually make "real" CDs with packaging, but we will definitely be making download-able versions available for purchase.  Watch for more info coming soon.  In the meantime, check out six of the nine songs here!

Abandoned Toys [12 Mar 2008|03:44pm]

Abandoned Toys makes some of the most beautiful dark ambient music that I have come across lately. If you like the genre, you should really look into their album, "The witch's garden".

New Hollydrift EP! [21 Nov 2006|08:58am]

Hollydrift has a new self-released limited edition EP entitled, "Tochter."  It is available for free -- all you have to do is write Mathias a personal letter!  Find out all the details, and watch a video of one of the tracks on "Tochter" here:

Here's a brief description of the EP, courtesy of www.hollydrift.com:

"The music on Tochter is slightly different than you have come to expect from Hollydrift.  While the music contains the same type of overdriven sound present in the music of Hollydrift since early 2003, it offers more melodic forays into the static.  A field recording of an American pioneer era textile machine, old synthesizers and even a drum machine make an appearance on Tochter... You will find a noisy simplicity on Tochter that is conducive to a more relaxed experience without the clutter of concentrated listening..."

Do yourself a huge favor and check out this new release from one of the most impressive and intriguing experimental soundscapers currently creating audio art.  Thanks.

new music from mayfairgrin (featuring vocals by fabian rush) [27 Aug 2006|04:07am]

"of distance and resonance" features vocals by fabian rush, whom will be continuing to contribute his unique vocals to mayfairgrin. this is a fairly new dimension to the music, as mfg is nearly all instrumental. the song accidentally ended up sounding like a blend of depeche mode and massive attack without sounding like either of those two. fabian's vocals are earthy, soulful, and perfectly matched to the music. the music is slow, heavy, atmospheric, and rolling. please listen, download, and -if you like what you hear- lend some opinionated feedback.

you can listen and download (if you want) at http://myspace.com/mayfairgrin or listen to a much higher quality version of "of distance and resonance" at http://mannequinoddio.com/main

painkiller from billy lamont and empyrean from mayfairgrin.

the new record from poet, billy lamont is a spiritual and philisophical voyage into the realms of tribal ambient, trance, and electronica. the record features original music by heart of darkness and mayfairgrin. painkiller will be available on CD 8-1-06.

empyrean is a free, digital-only, ambient release from mayfairgrin. there are elements of piano, 80's new-wave, classical, shoegaze, film score music, and IDM. empyrean is highly recommended for any one that appreciates ambient music or artists like moby, this mortal coil, slowdive, brian eno, massive attack, tangerine dream, and releases from the 4AD music label. empyrean can be downloaded in it's entirety by clicking here and can be previewed as streaming audio at mannequinoddio.com

this delicate confusion. [11 May 2006|10:54pm]

i started writing and producing this record nearly a year ago. ironically 2 other full albums came out of the studio sessions (the otsu.vihara release and 'sleep for now'). i had originally titled the album 'litany', but i abandoned the original concept of combining trance with Orthodox liturgical music. in fact there's not a shred of what i had originally conceptualized almost a year ago. so the title no longer seemed fitting. so a few days ago i was thinking about the experiences that provoked me into writing and recording the music for this album. i've been through many hills and valleys. my grandfather passing away a few months ago, to the depression that followed, to a rekindled spirituality, and finally a continued search for answers in a world that makes little sense.

this delicate confusion was what came to mind. the record is completed and wrapping for release at the end of this month. i'm very pleased with the results and i'm actually confident this time around that it will garner a positive response from those that hear it. it's more dark and solemn than usual and i didn't feel the need to express much in the way of aggression (or utter weirdness) like i did on 'excursions on a hovercraft'. i hate comparing, but the music most closely aligns to the bands/artists on the n5MD label. there's no mimicry, just a slight comparison. perhaps we have similar influences?

i would really, sincerely appreciate any one that reads this to take a moment and listen to the music i've made public at http://myspace.com/mayfairgrin and share with me their reaction, criticism, etc.. it would mean a lot ot me. i made a few of the songs downloadable for a little while too.

'this delicate confusion track-listing:
1. litany
2. sleep for now {twilight remix}
3. delicate {extended album edit}
4. black mountain machine {remix}
5. sagrada
6. morianna revisited
7. asterix {by jules: mfg remix}
8. kirlian sunshine {parts 1 - 3}
9. leise nacht

...that's exactly 80 minutes of music. i know, it's ridiculously long.

for those that like my musical efforts, i've uploaded a new mayfairgrin track to mannequinoddio.com called "in the sky at dusk". the best way i can describe it is the way i am currently feeling emotionally, spiritually, and socially. it's beatless, ethereal, and wandering shoegaze.

RIYL: godspeed you black emperor!, my bloody valentine, sigur ros, soulwhirlingsomewhere, slowdive, low, loveliescrushing, earth, etc.

New Release : biostatic - "blood_for_oil" : mp3s online [14 Nov 2005|09:10am]

Parasomnic Records is pleased to be distributing, in conjunction with Symbolic Insight, the new cd "blood_for_oil" by sound artist bios+a+ic.

bios+a+ic, who has also gained recognition as one half of the Seattle experimental electonic duo Entropic Advance, now resides in CO, where he continues to voice his subversive message through audio art.

"blood_for_oil" is an ambient-noise collage/sonic documentation which reflects upon the current turmoil in occupied Iraq. Tribal rhythms, dark drones, electronic textures, guitar washes, vocal chants and field recordings blend together, forming an epic journey that is both hypnotic and foreboding. This limited edition cdr of 100 units is over 73 minutes, packaged in camouflage paper, and is similar in style to Rapoon, Muslimgauze, Main, Scanner and Tribes of Neurot.

mp3 samples from "blood_for_oil" are now available online at http://www.parasomnicrecords.com/download.htm. The cd will be available to order on November 16, 2005. The price is only $8 and includes shipping.

For more artist info and updates visit http://www.biostatic.org or http://www.entropicadvance.com

new from mayfairgrin... [16 Oct 2005|12:57pm]

...a track titled "la misericordia del Cristo". it's a little bit of everything with strong leanings towards the EBM, trance, and electro genres rather than anything experimental or ambient, though very ethereal. comments and criticism are encouraged.

mannequin oddio media: august update. [22 Aug 2005|11:27pm]

now on sale:
survival from mannequin oddio's very own dark-electro/EBM artist, heart of darkness. this beautifully aggressive debut is on sale for only $7.oo until 10|01|05.

recent net-releases:

>> mystified - masks & wires
dark and dense atmospheric melodies tango around glitched-out intelligent-techno rhythms. tweaked urban beats meet psychodelic ambient soundscapes.

>> urbivor - the singularity :
hypnotic drones. warm sounds veiled in a deeply shadowed darkness. black and white cinema, a bit of noir, a bit of horror. a deep melody plays its dreary song while metallic sounds bounce and echo off the tight walls created in this sombient soundscape. bleak digitized atmospheres weave and flow through grinding rhythmic guitars and cold harsh industrial beats.

>> mayfairgrin - excursions on a hovercraft :
from glitch laden trip-hop rhythms to mind expanding soundscape to exotic drum-n-bass to rich ambient drones, this new collection of beautiful music by mayfairgrin is both intelligent and emotional.

new TDE tracks (demos for upcoming CD) [28 Jun 2005|01:14pm]

So, I suppose there are a few people who might actually still care about The Devouring Element... we'll see. I have finally posted a couple of new tracks online, they are demo versions of songs that will be on the CD "Subterranean Hymns" (which hopefully will be ready for release in Sept or Oct).

For some reason the volume on the new songs is a bit low, I am not sure why, but rest assured, when mixing is done they will all sound a lot better (they'll be louder, you'll be able to hear the samples more clearly, etc.). Anyway, it's good to be finally making progress... visit any of the sites below to listen, and let me know what you think. Thanks.
